It’s been a while, so we had to get a little vacay in during break. We decided to head to Massanutten Resort in Massanutten, VA for a Thursday-Saturday trip. Days were chosen specifically because the rates were good and because of the specials – BOGO Tubing and Kids eat free on weeknights. This resort has hotel lodges, condos and time shares all up and down the mountain with the activities found among them.

Thursday – From the Check-in building to our room was quite a distance…As we drove, we noticed everything was going to be far; no walking to the rec center, waterpark or skiing/tubing etc. The room was ok, definitely in need of an updated, but otherwise fine.
The indoor waterpark was closed on Thursday (we hope to return in season when it is open all week and at earlier times), but we took advantage of the big indoor pool at the rec center which was great. The rec center also had an arcade and basketball, gym, ping pong etc. so there was plenty to do. Unfortunately for us we had tubing scheduled for the evening and it was pouring rain so I had to get a refund…If I wanted to reschedule it would have cost almost 3 times as much, so that was a no go. We did eat at the Campfire Grill which is on the resort and had a nice dinner.
Friday – Breakfast was off property at The Thunderbird Cafe and was very good and reasonably priced. We had time before the waterpark opened so we got started with the activities; ping pong, basketball, racquetball to start. Next up, go carts and mini golf (these activities you have to pay for, $10/$11 for adults and kids). By now it was time for waterpark action. I had gotten a package online to stay at the resort, so I had bought the tickets to the waterpark beforehand…We followed the directions to pick up the bands an hour before and get in line; it was smart because the line got long and the chairs ended up getting snatched up.
The waterpark had a lot for the kids to do and there were lots of different areas for different aged kids. From waterslides to surfing, we were able to enjoy many activities. We spent a few hours there and then made our way to outdoor ice skating. The rink left a bit-to be desired, but we made the best of it and we had a good time. We then headed off property and went to the local ice cream shop, Kline’s Dairy Bar, that had excellent dessert.
Saturday – Back to The Thunderbird Cafe for breakfast before going back to the waterpark. We were one of the first at the park but by lunch the place had really filled up (Tip: Definitely get there early on weekends; it gets crowded).
Overall, this was a fun short trip, and we were able to fill it with lots of things and that’s without tubing/skiing, the virtual golf, e-gaming, and other activities that were open. We are going to return when the weather is better and other activities are open so we can compare…Keep on the lookout for a follow-up post!
