Delaware for summer fun

Our iconic hotel #3 was the Hotel DuPont in Wilmington, DE. A few hours drive from home, it was a pretty easy go.

The hotel was downtown, lots of business buildings around, but once stepping foot in the hotel you could see and feel the history of it. From the ceilings to the stairs, it was just beautiful.

Off to spend some time having fun with the kids, we hit up the Children’s Museum which they had a blast at! Like most of them they were interactive so the kids could play with everything and run around. Post-museum we went out to lunch at the Iron Hill Brewery, within walking distance, and sat outside enjoying the sunshine.

The Brandywine Zoo was next on our list of things to do. A cute Zoo, though not very large, the kids enjoyed it. After that, off to the Y for some family swim. Tip: For those who belong to the YMCA, call ahead and find out if you can go to family swim! Since our hotel didn’t have an indoor pool we definitely made sure to ask.

Next day we were off to Rehoboth Beach and Jungle Jim’s Water Park…Now they warned us to leave early so we left at like 8 or 9 am….Yeah that was too late. Tip: Early means EARLY! We sat in traffic for what felt like forever. While sitting in traffic we see that Jungle Jim’s was closer than the beach so we figured, “ok we will go here first and spend some time till traffic dies down”…and what a great move. The Park was big, not too crowded, a little on the expensive side, but we ended up spending a lot of the day there.

We hit up the beach around 4pm and it was actually really nice because traffic was gone and we were able to find parking pretty easily. We checked out the beach and were surprised at all the umbrellas! It was packed.

The boardwalk had lots going on and even had a kid’s amusement park, so of course the kids had to get a few rides and games in.

Finally, dinnertime…We had quite a few choices for sure, but my husband wanted to try Dogfish Head’s brewery/restaurant. We got there and there was quite a wait, so Tip: If you head over be prepared (especially if you have children). We actually ended up at another casual place instead because the kids were getting antsy, so it all worked out in the end.

The drive back to the Hotel DuPont was quicker at night and with all the adventure of the day exploring the beach, the kids were off to bed quick. It was a long day for us too but all in all it was a successful trip.
